A registry office wedding in either Berkhamsted or Hemel Hempstead. Charles and 'Ann' met and married within 10 days while he was in the UK convalescing. He wore his Sergeant's uniform for the wedding.

Soon after he returned to the war in France and left Ann living with Charlie Cook and his family. Witnesses to the wedding were Charlie Cook, his daughter Nellie Cook, his daughter Phyllis Mary Caston (nee Cook), William Caston (her husband), John Wallace Higginson (Ann's elder brother) and EHT Biggs ( relationship, if any, unknown).

Ann died in 2005 having been in a care home for a few weeks in Great Gaddesden and then transferred to Hemel Hempstead hospital.

Charles is not found in the 1939 census. It is thought that he was billeted somewhere in the UK preparing to fight in France. (Graham Hall).
