Notes

  • George Capell was descended from the Capells of Northants. I attach my revised document with the reasons why I feel so sure.

Just to say that Elizabeth Capell (nee Cook) died in Dec 1860 in Ivinghoe Aston and was buried in Little Gaddesden ........ now read on!

"I am thrilled that I have at last traced the elusive Richard Capell, brother of my 3x grt grandmother Mary Capell. We now share their parents (George and Elizabeth Capell) as ancestors.

If you would like to know about Richard's family I can send you details (in detail!) about his siblings (19 of them) and his origins. It is a fascinating story with a huge amount of social history in it. The early Capells were yeomen farmers who left wills and inventories but Richard's father, George, was a pauper. George (1745-1793)  was one of 17 children, and the son of a second marriage, and so his father apprenticed him to a shoemaker. He actually met the ancestors of Princess Diana and I have handled the notebook in which Lady Spencer wrote about George and his family in 1782.

I have 3 ring files full of documents which we have meticulously researched about the Capells (and the yeoman families they married before 1735) in the Northampton RO.
