- Buckinghamshire Quarter Sessions; notes on cases made by the presiding Justices in Easter Sessions 1833:
R. v John Pheasant, Cheddington, Stealing 1 pair shoes, value 10/-, property of Edward Pheasant on 7 May. Witnesses: Edward Pheasant, father of John, labouring man, of Cheddington. Has 9 children, John the eldest. Richard Montagu. Guilty. Once before [First sentence] in jail for leaving his family chargeable - 1 month 26 years old. 4 years 3 months in the Chatham marines 3 months hard labour [Second sentence].
Buckinghamshire Quarter Sessions, 31 Dec 1833:
Felony, damaging trees growing ? before convicted of felony. Transportation for 14 years [Third sentence].

"Was sent to Tasmania, arriving on the convict ship "Lady Kennaway" on 13 Feb 1835. From Tasmanian archives: Blonde, freckled and 5' 5". Was granted a ticket of leave in 1842, about seven years after he arrived in Tassie, and thereafter continued to wreak havoc, setting fire to fences (??) , stealing clothes, etc. The last report of him found is in 1871, when he was about to be sentenced for something. In a report dated 8-Sep-1860, he is described as: John Pheasant, a middle-aged man of somewhat comic expression of countenance.." (Rosie Alley).
