Notes
- From the BFHS transcriptions:
Burial: 16 Mar 1787 Widow COX
Burial: 31 Oct 1794 The wife of Richard COX
There is also the co-incidence(?) of
Burial: 4 Mar 1787 A child of Richard COX
Interpretations:
A. The 1787 burial refers to 'Widow Cox', but Rebecca was not a widow at that time (Richard re-married in 1795), and there is no reference to 'Richard' so the record could refer to any Cox. The 1794 death refers to the 'wife of Richard' and the date is a better fit for Richard's marriage to Elizabeth Grace six months later. (Patricia Anne Cox).
or
B. After Richard died in February 1787, and their child was born and died in late February/early March, smallpox, or the strain on Rebecca, caused her death by mid-March. The birth of Rebecca Cox 1788 fits this interpretation. The 1794 death could be the death of Richard 1763's mother Mary. (Keith Cook).
